The Challenger 300 market continues to chug along as inventories rise and demand is relatively slow. Through the third quarter of 2019, Challenger 300 transactions are roughly half of 2018’s pace of 40 sales by this time. After a slow second quarter, sales were similar with only six transactions taking place in Q3 2019. Each quarter in 2018 averaged 14 sales. Inventory has reached 29 listings, the highest level since Q2 2017. Currently, 6% of the active fleet is for sale. Pricing is unchanged going into Q4 of 2019, but all signs are pointing to things softening for the first time in two years. Challenger 604 sales slowed during the third quarter when compared to the active second quarter of 2019. Five aircraft traded during Q3 2019, down from 10 sales during the prior period. Total sales YTD for 2019 are at 19, not quite half of the 40 that sold last year by this time. Inventory has held steady, actually moving slightly lower to 20 listings, compared to 22 during the prior quarter. Currently, 6% of the active fleet is for sale. Values have also held steady now for six consecutive quarters. With inventory and pricing holding steady, this market remains balanced for both buyers and sellers.
After a slow second quarter, Challenger 605 activity finally picked up adding six sales during the third quarter. Total 2019 sales are at 11, which is still behind last year’s pace of 24. Inventory has risen sharply, now 24 listings which is the highest level since Q4 2016. Currently, 8% of the active fleet is for sale. Pricing has held steady now for three consecutive quarters, after rising at the end of 2018. With additional inventory and pricing holding steady, this market remains balanced for both buyers and sellers.
