2nd Quarter 2017 Market Summary

Current State of the Lear 45XR Market

The Lear 45XR market saw a decrease in the number of retail transactions in the first quarter of 2017. There were a total of three retail transactions, down from four retail transactions in the fourth quarter of 2016. We may have found some pricing stabilization during the latter portion 2016 and continuing into 2017. The average asking price has actually had a slight increase from $3.74MM in the fourth quarter of 2016 to $3.78MM in the first quarter of 2017. There are currently 25 aircraft available for sale or approximately 12% of the active fleet. It looks as if sellers have finally accepted what the values are of their airplanes and buyers have started to complete transactions. Hopefully the second quarter and beyond will continue on that trend.

Current State of the Lear 70/75 Market

The Lear 70/75 are still relatively new models with only 111 aircraft produced so far starting in 2013, so it is no surprise that the used market is still being established. The number of aircraft available has slowly increased and is now up to six. Only three aircraft traded hands in all of 2016, and there were two transactions in the first quarter of 2017. As more aircraft become available and eventually trade, pricing will become clearer, helping buyers and sellers to set expectations when heading into the market. For now, we would expect the current trend of lower prices to continue through 2017.
